Geomorphology of the Po Fluvial Terraces in Turin Deduced by New Subsoil Data (NW Italy)

Urban geomorphology is a theme of increasing interest over the last decades. The present research about Turin (NW Italy) was carried out based on drilling 40 boreholes, which 34 were designed for construction new sewer collector by SMAT-Società Metropolitana Acque Torino, while other 6 in Valentino Park. These investigations allow us to evaluate detailed morphology proglacial plain Rivoli-Avigliana end-moraine system (RAES) and facies, thickness petrographic composition fluvial sandy gravel forming this (Turin Unit). local discovery truncated palaeosol suggests that unit lies significant erosional surface shaped more ancient sediments. New radiocarbon dating woody macrorest above proves Last Glacial Maximum (LGM) age Unit. same suggest presence terraces (Molinette T1 Murazzi T2), Po River sediments, depositional (Vallere T3 Parco Stura T4), are essentially formed sand. Dating confirms widespread RAES Late Pleistocene sediments subsequent entrenched due Holocene deviation.
